Athens Airport to Alimos Marina: How to Get to Your Yacht Charter
Alimos Marina, also called Kalamaki Marina, is the largest marina in Greece and the place where most yacht charters from Athens begin and end. If you are flying into Athens International Airport to join a sailing holiday, here is how to get from the arrivals hall to your boat – with approximate times and a few tips from our team.
Option 1: X96 express bus
The X96 express bus links the airport with Piraeus along the coast, and stops at Kalamaki, right outside Alimos Marina. It runs day and night, and the trip usually takes a little over an hour, depending on traffic.
- Good for: one or two travellers with light luggage.
- Keep in mind: in summer the bus can be very full, and there is limited space for big bags or sailing gear.
Option 2: Metro and tram
Take metro line 3 from the airport to Syntagma in the centre of Athens, then the tram towards the coast; the Pikrodafni tram stop is at the main entrance of the marina. With the change, plan on about 1 hour 30 minutes.
- Good for: travellers who want to stop in the city centre first.
- Keep in mind: stairs and crowds at Syntagma with luggage, and the tram is slow along the coast.
Option 3: Taxi
Taxis wait at the official rank outside arrivals. The drive to Alimos takes about 40–50 minutes via Attiki Odos and Vouliagmenis Avenue. A standard taxi takes up to four passengers with limited luggage, so a full crew usually needs two cars.
Option 4: Private transfer
With a private transfer to Alimos Marina, your driver waits for you at arrivals with a name sign, and one car, minivan or minibus takes the whole crew and all the luggage together. It is the easiest choice after a long flight, and it lets you add a supermarket stop to buy provisions on the way.
- Good for: families, groups and crews, late arrivals, and anyone carrying provisions or sailing bags.
- Bonus: we time the transfer with your charter check-in and can arrange the return to the airport at the end of your week.

Tips for your charter day
- Check the check-in time. Charter companies give you a check-in and check-out time – if your flight lands early, plan lunch by the sea in Palaio Faliro or Glyfada, or a short visit to the Acropolis.
- Know your gate. Alimos is a big marina with several entrances and many pontoons. Tell your driver the name of your charter company so you are dropped as close as possible to your boat.
- Soft bags travel better. Charter companies usually ask for soft luggage that can be stored on board.
- Plan the way home. Check-out is usually in the morning – book your return transfer to the airport, your hotel or the ferry port in the same request.
