By train

For years the classic way to Meteora was the train from Athens to Kalambaka. Since the storm Daniel in 2023 the line to Kalambaka has been under restoration, and trains run as far as Paleofarsalos, with a connecting bus to Kalambaka via Karditsa and Trikala. From the airport you first need to reach Athens Larissis station. Check the current timetable before you travel, as works and schedules change.

By coach

Some companies run direct coaches from central Athens to Kalambaka, about 4½ hours, usually once a day. From the airport you first need to get into the city.

By private transfer – the easy way

A private transfer takes you from the airport arrivals hall to your hotel in Kalambaka or Kastraki – about 350 km, roughly 4 hours 30 minutes – with breaks whenever you want. You arrive rested, in time for the sunset over the rocks.

  • Meet and greet at arrivals.
  • No stations, no changes – one vehicle from door to door.
  • Stops on request – Thermopylae, or Delphi on the way.
  • Onward travel – Metsovo, Zagori, Ioannina or Thessaloniki.
