Explore Meteora
The monasteries of Meteora stand on top of huge rock pillars above the town of Kalambaka and the village of Kastraki, in Thessaly. Six of them are still active and open to visitors, and the old footpaths between the rocks make for some of the most memorable short hikes in Greece. Meteora is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

How to get here from Athens
Meteoritis Hotel is in Kastraki, at the foot of Meteora, about 350 km (4 h 30) by car from Athens. The direct train to Kalambaka has been out of service since storm Daniel in 2023, so the easiest way is a private transfer from Athens or from Thessaloniki airport (about 2 h 45) – with a stop at Thermopylae on the way from Athens if you like.
