Explore Mount Pelion
Mount Pelion rises right above Volos, with stone villages hidden in chestnut and plane forests and beaches on both the Pagasetic Gulf and the Aegean. Old cobbled paths (kalderimia) link villages such as Makrinitsa, Portaria, Tsagarada and Milies, and the little steam train still runs from Ano Lechonia to Milies in the warm months.

Horto is about 50 minutes from Volos and 4 hours by car from Athens. Buses from Athens go only as far as Volos, with few connections up to the villages, so the easiest way is a private transfer from Athens or Athens airport straight to your hotel.
