About this Tour
Two of the best-known wine regions of Greece lie only an hour apart in the Peloponnese. On the high plateau of Mantinia, above 600 metres, the pink-skinned Moschofilero grape gives fresh, aromatic white wines (PDO Mantinia). Around Nemea, one of the largest wine zones in the country, the Agiorgitiko grape makes the red wines of PDO Nemea. This private day trip visits a winery in each region, with your own driver – so nobody has to drive after the tasting.
Morning: Mantinia
Pick-up from your hotel in Tripoli, Lagkadia, Nafplio or the Arcadian villages. Visit and tasting at a Mantinia winery – for example Tselepos in Rizes or Troupis in Fteri, depending on availability – then a short stop at the ancient theatre of Mantineia.
Midday: Ancient Nemea
Drive to Nemea (about 1 hour). Lunch in a local taverna, then the archaeological site of Ancient Nemea with the Temple of Zeus, the museum and the ancient stadium where the Nemean Games were held.
Afternoon: Nemea wineries – back to your hotel
Visit and tasting at a Nemea winery – for example Gaia in Koutsi, Skouras in Malandreni or Lafkiotis in Ancient Kleones – then the drive back to your hotel or on to Nafplio or Athens.
Wineries need a booking, so we arrange the visits for you; some are closed on Sundays or in the harvest weeks (late August–September). The trip also works from Athens (a longer day) or as part of a multi-day Peloponnese trip. We reply within 24 hours.
Frequently asked questions
Do we need to know about wine?
No. The winemakers explain everything, and the tastings are relaxed. Non-drinkers enjoy the vineyards, the ancient sites and the food.
Can we visit only one region?
Yes. A half day in Mantinia from Tripoli or Lagkadia, or a half day in Nemea from Nafplio or Athens, is also possible.
Can children come?
Yes, with child seats in the car. Ancient Nemea and the vineyards are good for children; tastings are for adults only.
