The Menalon Trail in 2 Days: Stemnitsa - Dimitsana - Zygovisti

Walk two consecutive sections of the Menalon Trail with an overnight stay in a mountain village – and leave all the logistics to us. On day 1 you hike Section 1 from Stemnitsa to Dimitsana while we take your luggage to your accommodation in Dimitsana. On day 2 you continue on Section 2 to Zygovisti, where our driver picks you up and takes you back to Athens or to any other destination you choose.

The Menalon Trail is a 75 km waymarked route that links nine traditional villages of Arcadia. In 2015 it became the first hiking trail in Greece to be certified as a “Leading Quality Trail – Best of Europe” by the European Ramblers Association.

The two sections

• Day 1 – Section 1: Stemnitsa – Dimitsana, 12.5 km, about 5 hours, Difficult (4/5)
• Day 2 – Section 2: Dimitsana – Zygovisti, 4.2 km, about 2 hours, Moderate (2/5)

Day 1: Stemnitsa – Dimitsana

• Morning pick-up from your hotel in Athens (around 07:00) by our private driver, or from another place you tell us.
• Arrival in Stemnitsa (about 2.5–3 hours' drive) and start of the hike. Your luggage stays with us.
• Start in Stemnitsa, the stone-built village of goldsmiths
• Prodromou Monastery, built into the cliff above the Lousios Gorge
• The Old and New Philosophou monasteries and the Philosophou bridge
• Arrival in Dimitsana. Your luggage is already waiting at your accommodation in Dimitsana. Evening free for dinner in the village (not included).

Day 2: Dimitsana – Zygovisti

• After breakfast, start Section 2 of the trail.
• Start next to the historic Library of Dimitsana
• The chapel of Agia Paraskevi on the first plateau
• Views over Dimitsana, Paliochori and Zatouna
• Arrival in Zygovisti, where our driver meets you.
• Private transfer back to Athens (city centre or airport) – or to another destination of your choice, such as Nafplio, Kalamata, Olympia or Patras. Just tell us when you book.

Good to know

• Wear trekking shoes and bring a small day pack with water, snacks and a rain jacket – everything else travels with your luggage.
• The best season for the trail is May to September; in other months we will advise you on conditions.
• Want to walk more sections? We can add extra nights and days, up to the whole trail.
