Where to Stay in Delphi and Arachova

Delphi was the centre of the ancient world – the sanctuary of Apollo and his famous oracle, on the slopes of Mount Parnassus, looking down over a sea of olive trees to the Gulf of Corinth. Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most beautiful places to visit in Greece. Many people come on a long day trip from Athens, but staying a night means you can see the site early in the morning, in the quiet. Here is how to choose between Delphi and nearby Arachova, and the partner hotels we book for our guests.

Delphi or Arachova? Choosing your base

  • Delphi – the small modern village next to the archaeological site. Walk to the site and the museum, enjoy quiet evenings and wide views over the Pleistos valley to the sea.
  • Arachova – a lively mountain village of stone houses about 11 km away, known for its local cheese and woven rugs, with more tavernas, cafés and shops. In winter it is the base for the Parnassos ski centre.

How to get to Delphi

Delphi is about 180 km from Athens – roughly 2½ hours by car. There is no train, and buses are few, so the easiest way is a private transfer from Athens or Athens airport to Delphi, with a stop at the monastery of Hosios Loukas or in Arachova on the way if you like. Frequently asked questions

Should I stay in Delphi or Arachova?

Stay in Delphi if the archaeological site is your main reason to come: you can walk there and visit early, before the day trips arrive, and the evenings are quiet with views to the sea. Choose Arachova, about 11 km away, for a livelier mountain village with more tavernas and shops – and in winter for the Parnassos ski centre.

How many nights do I need?

One night is enough to see the site and the museum without rushing. With two nights you can also walk the old path between Arachova and Delphi or visit the monastery of Hosios Loukas, and continue to Meteora rested.

Can you book the hotel together with my transfer?

Yes. Tell us your dates and the hotel you like – we check availability with our partner and send you one offer with your private transfer from Athens, tours and activities if you wish. We reply within 24 hours and nothing is booked until you accept.
