Where to Stay in Pylos and Methoni
The southwest corner of the Peloponnese is all about the sea: the great natural harbour of Navarino bay, the shell-shaped beach of Voidokilia, the Gialova lagoon with its birds, and two Venetian castles at Pylos and Methoni. Distances here are short, so the question is less where the sights are and more what kind of stay you want. Here is how to choose, and the partner hotels we book for our guests.
Pylos, Gialova or Methoni? Choosing your base
- Pylos town – arcaded square, harbour cafés and tavernas, the Neokastro castle above. The most lively base, and everything is within walking distance.
- Gialova – a small beach village on the calm waters of Navarino bay, a few minutes from Voidokilia beach and the lagoon. Ideal for families and beach days.
- Methoni – a quiet village with a huge Venetian sea castle and a sandy, shallow beach. Good for a slower pace, about 15 minutes south of Pylos.
