Stone-built Boutique Hotel in Areopoli
📍 Areopoli, 230 62, Laconia, Greece
Trapela is a new traditional hotel built entirely of local Mani stone at the entrance of Areopoli, the historic town of the Mani. The multi-level stone building, with wood and stone everywhere, has a warm, slightly mysterious atmosphere, and the old lanes and tower houses of Areopoli are right outside.
Rooms range from Standard and Superior Double Rooms to Deluxe rooms, a Superior Loft Room and a One-Bedroom Suite, all with stone walls, wooden beamed ceilings and traditional furniture. The day starts in the stone-and-wood breakfast room with a generous buffet of Mediterranean favourites and local products – omelettes, pancakes, fresh fruit and home-made cakes.

Explore the Mani
The Mani is the wild middle peninsula of the Peloponnese: stone tower villages like Vathia, the Taygetos mountains rising straight from the sea, small harbours such as Limeni and Gerolimenas, the Diros caves and quiet pebble coves. Kardamyli and Stoupa sit on the greener Messinian side, Areopoli and Gytheio on the Laconian side.

Trapela is in Areopoli, about 1 hour 50 minutes by car from Kalamata airport and about 4 hours from Athens. The closest airport is Kalamata (about 1 to 2 hours by car, depending on where you stay). There are few buses in the Mani, so the easiest way is a private transfer from Kalamata airport, Athens or the port – with stops on the way if you like.
