Beaches of the Peloponnese: Nafplio – Monemvasia – Elafonisos – Mani – Voidokilia (5 Days)

Five days along the coasts of the Peloponnese, from the sandy bays of the Argolid and the quiet Arcadian coast to the white dunes of Elafonisos, the coves of Mani and the horseshoe bay of Voidokilia. You travel privately by car, with time for a swim every day, and stay in Nafplio, Monemvasia, Gythio and Pylos. Best from May to October – the sea is warmest from July to September.

Day 1: Athens – Corinth Canal – Nafplio – Karathona beach
Pick-up from your hotel in Athens or from the airport, with a stop at the Corinth Canal. In the afternoon, a swim at Karathona, a long sandy bay just outside Nafplio, below the Palamidi fortress – or at Tolo, a little further along the coast. Evening in the old town of Nafplio. Overnight in Nafplio.

Day 2: The Arcadian coast – Astros, Tyros, Leonidio – Monemvasia
Along our own coast of Kynouria: the long beach of Paralio Astros, the windmills and pebble beaches of Tyros, and Plaka, the little harbour and beach of Leonidio under the red cliffs. In the afternoon, over the mountains of Parnon to Monemvasia, the medieval castle town on a rock joined to the mainland by a causeway. Overnight in or next to Monemvasia.

Day 3: Elafonisos – Simos beach – Gythio
A short drive to Neapoli and a ferry of about 10 minutes to Elafonisos, famous for Simos and Sarakiniko – white sand, dunes and turquoise water that many compare to the Caribbean. In the late afternoon, on to Gythio, the harbour town of the Laconian Gulf. Overnight in Gythio.

Day 4: Mavrovouni – Mani – Kardamyli – Pylos
A morning swim at Mavrovouni, the long sandy beach just south of Gythio. Then into the Mani: the stone tower village of Areopoli and, if you like, a boat ride through the Diros caves. Along the west coast to Kardamyli and the pebble cove of Foneas, then on to Pylos on Navarino Bay. Overnight in Pylos.

Day 5: Voidokilia – Gialova lagoon – Athens
Morning at Voidokilia, the horseshoe-shaped bay next to the Gialova lagoon – one of the most photographed beaches in Greece. Afterwards, return to your hotel in Athens or to the airport (about 3 hours 45 minutes).
